Heal Your Mind, Body, and Soul with Holistic Living
A Beginner's Guide to Holistic Living
It’s been months, your body just doesn’t feel right and you’ve developed some unusual symptoms in your body.
When you try to shake them off, all of your attempts fail. You have even tried everything your doctor has recommended to you by diligently following steps to achieve better health, but nothing seems to be working.
I think it’s safe to say we have all been in a situation where we seek better healthcare, but the modern medicinal practices offered to us are just not enough to improve our symptoms.
The problem is that many seek better health instead of healing. Healing is a continuous process and getting started will require you to research and reflect on holistic ways to reverse your old lifestyle choices that your body has become accustomed to.
A recent study by Georgetown University, an institution that specializes in health policy, revealed that more than 66% of all adults in the United States use prescription drugs. That’s more than 131 million people! Unfortunately, there are diseases that commonly and primarily affect communities of color such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and many others.
What is the consequence?
This results in many people subscribing to prescription medicine as they perceive it to be the only saving grace. However, this is far from the truth - holistic living can lead to true healing!
In this blog post, I'll be delving into holistic living, how it can be achieved, how you can get started, and its benefits. Let’s get started!
What is Holistic Living?
Holistic living is a lifestyle that involves connecting with your mind, body, and soul. Understanding the components of the human body and connecting with what is natural and pure, helps you to flush out all of the stress, toxins and reverse many ailments you may have.
In the beginning, before the creation of man-made medicines, there were and always have been natural remedies that come wholly and organically from the Earth.
Over the years, it has been proven that eating healthily from the Earth’s natural produce can result in an overall positive change within your body, helping you to increase your mind’s productivity, your body’s agility, and replenish your soul.
Healing your mind, body, and soul is the beginning of holistic living.
Listen, you deserve to walk along a holistic path, and with all the impurities we allow into our bodies, an all-natural cleanse is exactly what we all need. Making the personal decision to start now could be the life-changer you have been praying and waiting for.
Health is the ultimate wealth!
How you can start a Holistic Lifestyle.
Anyone can jump on the holistic living wagon, however, you need to find your reason why and make the decision to stay committed and true to this lifelong path. Not everyone can commit, and that is why you will need some essential information and tips to help you to keep going.
It can be difficult to detox all of the toxins and relieve the ailments in your body, but some practices can help ease the beginning of the process.
- Finding a routine that works for you
In all honesty, we can all admit to having tried something in many different ways using a trial and error approach until it works. But in most cases, it’s not the trying of many ways but trying the right way which makes the difference. There are many important life changes you could make when trying to live a healthier lifestyle, for example, a change in diet to a keto or vegan diet, an effective fitness routine that helps burn those calories, or even a change in mindset to a better and more optimistic way of thinking. You try it out but as soon as you hit a block along the way, you are quick to give up.
Why is this? Why is it hard to keep up with what we start regardless of the hurdles ahead?
The biggest mistake you may be making at the start is that you put so much pressure on yourself to the extent that burnout is bound to happen eventually. You must ease yourself into the new process or change at a reasonable pace so that your body can adjust. When you try to make a change and take drastic leaps initially, you will surrender and throw in the towel more times than not. You are then left wondering “what is wrong with me?” and “why can’t I be consistent?”. It isn’t impossible to stay consistent with a routine, you just need to try switching to a more suitable and easier approach tailored just for you, so that your body will thank you instead of trying to fight you.
Practices you can cultivate in your holistic journey
- Meditation, Mindfulness, Affirmations, and Prayer
Take time out of your day to savor the moment and value what is right in front of you. It involves being grateful and visualizing where you want to see yourself in the future, dreaming about the best version of yourself, and believing that it can be more than a dream and can be achieved. Through prayer and meditation and practicing mindfulness and affirmations, you will take one step closer to living a full, purpose-driven life.
- Fitness
Aim to maximize that rush of energy you get when you bounce out of bed ready to start your day. Participating in a good workout will do just the trick to help get your heart pumping, raise your adrenaline levels and improve your mood for the rest of the day. Activities such as jogging, cycling, hiking, running, or a gym session can increase your body’s stamina and boost your overall health and wellbeing.
- Natural Remedies
Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers were right about herbs, ginger, garlic, and honey having healing properties for fighting the common cold, the flu (and many more diseases), giving the body a well-needed detox. Other agents like neem and tea tree oil can be used for antibacterial purposes such as cleaning cuts and wounds. Aromatherapy, another favorite of mine, is a practice that has been passed down for centuries because of its therapeutic benefits like using essential oils. Doing a bit of research on these natural remedies will do you a world of good for your mind, body, and soul.
- Whole clean foods
Keeping your diet clean and healthy, for example opting for a delicious green homemade salad, or even a balanced home-cooked meal with all food groups (vegetables, proteins, and moderated carbs) present, is far better than ordering a pizza late at night and finishing it off with a tub of ice cream. Living solely on junk food is a complete cry for help because that lifestyle affects the body negatively and deteriorates the mind and can often lead to depression.
- Rest
Learn to slow down and recharge your body with good rest. Sleeping 7 to 8 hours a day, taking 30-minute power naps if your body needs them, and keeping the body energized with calm and sound sleep is important. Put all of your gadgets away an hour before bed, as the blue light from your phone affects your eyes and can cause dryness leading to insomnia, migraines, and other sleep-related diseases. Instead, relaxing the mind before bed by doing activities such as meditating or reading helps you get effective rest leading to a brighter day ahead.
How to stay consistent in your holistic journey
There are various tools that you can start with to help keep you accountable and consistent.
- Habit Tracking Tools
Whether using an app or writing in your journal, I believe that tracking your daily habits and recording your wins and misses helps bring awareness to the steps you are making. On my journey, I quickly realized the benefits of tracking my day-to-day habits. That is exactly why I created the lifestyle builder.
Are you looking for a simple yet effective way to track the health and wellness habits you want to adopt?
The lifestyle builder helps you stick to those lifestyle-changing action steps and habits. And here’s the best part, it’s free! Click here to download the lifestyle builder.
- Support system
Surrounding yourself with companions who support and encourage you in this holistic journey is powerful. A strong support system helps you to face the most difficult situations and setbacks.
A quote I love says “A community is like a ship, everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm.” (Henrik Ibsen).
Having a community around you that are always ready to step in, hold and affirm you as you make this lifestyle change helps ease the process, whether that be your family, your spouse, your friends, or even your local church coming in to encourage you to lead the holistic lifestyle.
- Coaching
Most of the time, you cannot be 100% sure that you are doing everything right, especially as a beginner, and that's why getting coached by someone who has more experience and expert knowledge on the subject will help show you the ropes and set you on the right path. That extra voice of reason and guidance is just what we need when we start on our holistic journey, and who is better than a health coach with material and content that is compact yet full of wisdom.
As an end to this post, I want you to remember this:
“The best six doctors anywhere, and no one can deny it, are sunshine, water, rest, and air, exercise, and diet. These six will gladly you attend if only you are willing, your mind they'll ease, your will they'll mend And charge you not a shilling.” -Wayne Fields
Choosing to live a more natural and healthy life requires lifestyle changes, which aren’t always easy. My advice is to start with one change at a time! Set a goal to improve one aspect of your life and build on it from there.
